Posted - September 02 2015 : 02:04:02 Hi,
I use Macrium Reflect Professional v.5.3.
Since I bought it, it has been updated to offer three options to create a Windows rescue disc : Windows PE 3.1, Windows PE 4.0 and Windows PE 5.0. Which one should I use ? I have Windows 7 64-bit (and my PC has some USB 3.0 ports in addition to USB 2.0).
Should I discard the rescue disk I burned when I bought Macrium in 2013 ? I'm pretty sure it used Windows PE 3, while the other versions were not available at the time.
I'm about to do a clean reinstall, so I'd like to get my tools straight !
Thanks in advance.

Posted - September 02 2015 : 13:41:08 PE3 is based on Windows 7, PE4 on Windows 8 and PE5 on Windows 8.1 - this is from a post by Arvy on the V6 forum.
PE3 has a deficiency in that it does not have USB3 support so you have to load a USB3 driver.
I have been using 4 and now 5 on my Win 7 disks with no problems. The WinPE environment runs as its own entity, it does not require anything to be loaded off your Windows OS drive to run. It only needs to be able to read and write your FAT32 or NTFS disk structure.
Of course, you should test your new WinPE CD/USB flash drive to ensure it boots and can at least read your backup device correctly. A good test is to boot the WinPE device, create an archive on your backup device and then Verify it or an older archive.
