Hi there,
I am trying to create a backup of a 3x disc RAID 5 array but am getting this report:

Disk 2 LSI MegaRaid 83008ELP 1.03 <743.195GB> INVALID

Disk 1 (2 disk RAID 1 C:\) is also controlled by the same MegaRaid controller and backs up without any problems.

Any ideas why the 'Disk 2' portion of the same controller is showing as invalid?

Many thanks,

Eric.

Hi Eric

Disk 2 is setup as a dynamic disk (software RAID). Macrium Reflect fully supports hardware RAID but doesn't support software RAID.

Kind Regards

Hi Nick and thanks for the reply.

From my question you figured that Disk 2 had been setup as a dynamic disk (software RAID) - correct!

During set up of this controller I dont recall there being any info about this Hardware/Software issue, I just set up 2 RAID arrays at the same time. Off hand do you know if it is possible to convert the second array to 'hardware' RAID?

The Macrium backup software is a million times better than the Acronis TrueImage Echo rubbish. It takes up way too much of my time getting it to work properly.

Hi Eric

Thanks for the positive comments!

Dynamic disk initialization is performed by windows not your RAID controller. You need to convert your dynamic disk to basic. http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2005/08/03/converting-from-dynamic-to-basic-disks/

Revisiting this issue from a couple of years ago, will the 'Pro' version recognise my 'invalid' discs and allow me to get rid of this awful Paragon Server Drive Backup software?

Hi

Yes, the Professional and Server editions of Macrium Reflect version 5 are compatible with Dynamic disks (software RAID). So now these editions do support both software and hardware RAID.

The Standard edition of Macrium Reflect version 5 only supports hardware RAID.

Hope this helps

Regards
