Backup files are wonderful and may verify clean immediately after the backup completes. But on more than one occasion I have tried to use a backup many months after it was taken only to have the software tell me that the backup file(s) is corrupted.

So now I use WinRAR to "store" the backup file(s) with 3% recovery data added, based on their ability to recover corrupted data in the stream.

This is hardly ideal. I would dearly appreciate it if Reflect included ECC in their data stream as an option at least. If I want to expend an additional 3% to 5% of space to recover from data errors that creep in after the backup files have settled, then I'd like to have that option.

I am aware that hard drive manufacturers employ ECC to correct for data errors on disk. I am also aware that they misuse this capability to extend the density of data storage far beyond safe limits and many "good" sectors on brand new drives are only "good" because ECC is "keeping them alive". As soon as these sectors accrue just a little more error, they "fail", sometimes within weeks or months of purchase.

In short, please add ECC as an option. I will gladly pay an upgrade price for this capability.

Hi Agmorion,

Thanks for posting and thank you for your feedback.

I have raised a feature request for the development team to evaluate.

Kind regards
