How often should one create WinPE rescue media on the same PC if the version of Windows stays the same except for Windows Updates?

Also, I'm currently running MR v5.3.7299 since I didn't need the listed functionality in versions .7301 and .7310. Is there any reason to update MR to version 5.3.7310 anyway?

Thanks!

Hi optiquest1,

Thanks for posting

Please keep Reflect updated to the latest build and I recommend updating the rescue media when Reflect informs you of an update. The updates contain performance improvements, bug fixes and sometimes new features.

Please note that support for version 5 has now ended. You can find more information on upgrading to version 6 here:

Kind regards

Hello optiquest1,

There is no reason why you shouldn't update to 7310 since, aside from the additional functionality, Reflect updates also include bug fixes. I am using 7310 on all of my computers with no issues.

Yet you had a more specific question which wasn't addressed by the other poster's reply. You asked if any Windows Updates would be a reason why you should create or update your WinPE rescue media. Windows Updates has nothing to do with the WinPE environment. Think of newly installed Windows Updates as nothing more than new data which gets backed up along with everything else on your hard drives.

Regardless of whether or not you update Macrium to 7310, if an updated version of the WinPE environment is available then you should consider updating the WinPE environment and not only create new rescue media, but also update the Recovery Boot Menu. Why? Because an updated WinPE includes bug fixes which might address issues if you redeploy your backups to a new computer or if you have added new hardware to your present computer. On the other hand and if you don't plan to restore your backups to another computer, and if you have previously successfully restored a backup using your present WinPE environment and haven't added any new hardware to your computer, then you have no need to update your WinPE environment at the present time.

Hopefully I have answered your original question.

Best regards,
