Totally busted non boot-able system.
I knew the very recent low risk manoeuvres with Beta software that might have been higher risk than I realised, but no way to document what to avoid in future

Not even the installed WinPE dual boot functioned.
Nothing worked except the Macrium Boot CD.

I chose to FIRST create an image of my broken HDD to enable an expected restored system to mount the image and browse the latest variants of all documents that had changed since the last GOOD image.
This has done me good in the past.

I also wanted to analyse which of my recent risks had caused a problem that only affected me after shut-down and prevented the subsequent restart.
When I was setting up the backup I came across the COMMENT section which previously I never used.
I thought this is my last chance to document exactly what I was doing.
Then I ran out of space, no further text accepted. I typed only 10% of the significant things I could remember. Had I been able to type more I was willing to stay up past midnight.
So I saved the BAD image file, and restored the HDD from the GOOD image file, and went to bed.

Macrium under Windows has no event log for the creation of the bad image (it was a desperate hope).
When I select as if to restore the BAD image Macrium GUI gives a fleeting glimpse of the comment but no way to copy/paste,
but "Ctrl Alt Print Screen" captured a gif via WinSnap and I am now typing from a non-fleeting image
quote:
....
All working normal till shutdown, then reboot consistently failed :-
Boot Selection Failure because required Device inaccessible.
error 0xC0000255...

Unfortunately the other 90% I wanted to type went to sleep with me, and it is a bit of a jumbled sequence.

It can be a life saver if the last image was in the distant past and the Boot CD can capture all the recent changes to all document and files and desktop shortcuts. That it does well.
I would like that when I am recovering from a disaster it should be possible to mount an image of the disaster that allows :-
copy/paste of a much larger "last will and testament" comment ;
or the creation of an unrestricted free text file that can be opened by notepad,
either a file in the captured image or together with the image file in the same folder as the *.mrimg file.

Regards
Alan
