Hello,
I need some step by step instruction on how to restore my full and differential backup on my computer when I upgrade vista to windows 7. Currently using 4.2 macrium. Not ready to upgrade just yet. My backups are currently stored on an external HD connected to my computer.
1. do I need to uninstall my license and then reuse it when I install macrium 4.2 program in windows 7?
2. will 4.2 version work with windows 7 x64 architecture?
Can you please provide me a link or directions?
Thank you very much. |

You do need to uninstall Reflect, prior to upgrading your windows system. You can then reinstall, post windows upgrade. Yes, it will work with win7 x64.
Regarding restoring your backups: Are your backups image files or file and folder backups? If they are image files including your system disk, then you will overwrite your new win7 system with your old vista install, so don't do that.
Otherwise ... http://www.macrium.com/webhelp/Restoring_Files_and_Folders.asp

Thank you for your response. The backups that i have now appear to be disk partition images, not indiv. folders/files. One file is a full image backup. Four others are differential image backups.
1. Can I mount the most recent differtial image in windows explorer and then drag and drop folders that I want to transfer to the same directories in windows 7? Which image backup do I need to do this with? (the most recent differntial backup or the full backup?)Is this an efficient method? This way seems like a lot of manual work.
2. Would the best method be to backup folders/fles in vista that I want to transfer to windows 7 using macrium "backup files" feature? When I restore these folders in windows 7, will macrium restore them automatically in the same directories?
3. From your response, I must diable the macrium license in vista, install macrium 4.2 in windows 7 and then use license again.
thanks again for responding to my questions. |

1. Will I be allowed to create a new rescue disk in Windows 7 once I install macrium 4.2 with license again?
2. Do I need to just burn a rescue disk and not a winPE disc for emergency situations? Or should I burn both discs?
Thank you. |

Hi,
Yes, just mount the latest differential backup, and then you can drag any files over to your new filesystem. Note: You may need check the "Enable access to restrict folders" option ... http://www.macrium.com/help/v5/Restore/Browse_Image.htm
Alternatively, you can take a file and folders backup of your vista system (taking care only to backup your user files, (and not c:\windows and c:\program files etc). They can then be restored automatically to the same path(s) on the new filesystem.
You will be able to burn new rescue disks when you reinstall. The winPE disk is also rescue disk and is recommended in preference to the linux rescue cd, as it is more fully featured and has better hardware support.
