Hi,

Not really a problem but just looking for some understanding about the following observation:

My system has two hard drives disc 0 and disc 1. On disc 0 there are two partitions which have drive letters C: (label Main) and E: (label Data). On disc 1 there is a single partition assigned drive letter D: (label Video). System boots from disc 0 where Windows resides in C:.

When restoring from Boot CD (Windows PE) the drive letters C: and D: are interchanged i.e. Main is now shown as D: and Video as C:. From the labels it is clear which partition to restore but I am curious to know why this switch in drive letters. No fancy boot managers present or multiple OSes.

Any information would be gratefully recveived.

Hi Fraser

The drive letters in the image should be exactly the same as those assigned within Windows when you created the image. Windows allows you to change the ordering of the letters, but the Windows PE view of the disk can be different as each drive letter is assigned in disk and partition sequence. This means if you open Widows PE Explorer you will likely see different letters.

However, when you restore, the correct partition is selected to replace regardless of drive letter assignment.

It was just a little strange and I wanted to confirm that this switch of drive letters can happen before being faced with an emergency situation and perhaps getting into a panic over this.
