I backed up one XP Pro partition. (Win7 was on the same drive in a different partition) I formatted the drive. I installed Win7 on the drive. I restored XP Pro. I can't get XP Pro to run. When I restored XP Pro I did restore the MBR. What do I need to do to get it restored so it will run?
A dual boot system with XP and Windows 7 uses the Windows 7 Boot Configuration Data (BCD) to boot into either OS, it doesn't use the MBR.
Boot into Windows 7 and download a free BCD utility such as EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 and add your XP system to the BCD.

Thanks for the reply...
I have done that. I can boot into the XP partition. When it boots into XP it shows: 1. The Welcome screen. 2. A black screen with the cursor. 3. A window saying windows is starting up. 4. A black screen with the cursor. 5. A blue screen. 6. Windows Installer, Preparing to install. (It doesn't get past this to install anything) 7. Logging off. 8. It goes into a loop to #4.
Since XP was running fine before the backup I don't understand why it won't run after the restore.
Your XP 'boot.ini' may be incorrect if you have changed the partition order.
So we can see the specification of your system, could you boot into Win7 and run 'System Information' ('All Programs' > 'Accessories' > 'System Tools' > 'System Information') and take the 'File' > 'Save' menu option. Save the '.nfo' file, compress (zip) it and send it to support(at)macrium.com.
Can you also attach the 'boot.ini' file from the root of your XP partition. Note, this is a hidden, system file so you'll need to enable viewing of hidden and system files in Windows Explorer.
