Do I need a memory test, or an update on Build 3141 ?
I always image the whole set of System Reserved + C:\ + H:\ + D:\.
Using Macrium Rescue P.E. Editions v 2.1 Build 3141 to restore my Primary partition :-
1. 64 Bit disc created on this Win 7 Desktop fails with message
DISKRESTOREX64.exe
Instruction at 0xfbb17480 referenced 0xfbb17480 could not be written.
This happened soon after I submitted my password and before anything else seemed to happen.
2. 32 Bit disc created on XP Laptop has similar message but address 0x74a08549. This first happened soon after entering password,
but retrying (without rebooting) the address varied AND ALSO NO WAITING FOR PASSWORD.
When the password box appears it NEVER puts focus on the entry field and I have to shuffle the mouse and click before I can type,
and after it warmed up a bit the error appeared before I even clicked on the field to start typing.
After the error message I am offered the option for a diagnostic dump but that option is timed out within 1 or 2 seconds.
Both Boot CD's have never had difficulty restoring any partition 1 at a time,
but my first attempts at DiskRestore fails.
I have now used the 32 bit disc to restore System Reserved + C:\ to their correct places on the primary, and the H:\ + D:\ partitions to unallocated space on the secondary.
The error message suggests to me that I have defective memory, or that build 3141 uses non-existent memory for DiskRestore only even though partition restore uses what I have.
I am wondering whether to update to the latest v4.2 build and create a new CD in case of a build error. or whether to spend time doing an exhaustive memory test.
My secondary drive has 130 GB of image files perhaps 70 GB in 6 GB FULL images, and 60 GB in 0.5 GB Incremental and Differential files. I have NEVER had a validation error.
If I had defective memory, would I not suffer validation errors when creating and restoring ?
I am really looking forward to upgrading to v5.
I have the downloader and the license code and was ready to replace v4.2.
Unfortunately when I did a final Differential image of where I am at,
I had some cryptic message that a partition was missing.
I do not know what went wrong but I have all the partitions present - I see no problem.
I thought a disc ID problem was possible and decided to resolve by a full disk restore. Oh dear ! !
I do have junction folders between C:\ and two other partitions, one of which is on the secondary HDD and receives all the unwanted rubbish that one of my applications tries to dump into C:\,
and one is on the primary D:\ to isolate it from Patch Tuesday disruptions.
Is there any way that DiskRestore could malfunction due to
1) an image containing Junction Folders "bridging the gap" between C:\ and a partition on the secondary HDD
2) a mix'n'match mismatch on the primary HDD between an earlier C:\ which has no Junction folders and the latest D:\ and E:\ that still contain the actual folders with the contents previously targeted ?
I am inclined to assume a Build 3141 error and just press ahead with version 5,
but a priority interrupt is pending from she who must be obeyed - time to go shopping.
Hoping for a few hints and suggestions when I return

Hi Alan
Did you get a .dmp file created on the root of your 'c' drive? If so can you send this to us at support(@)macrium.com.
Also, if you run DiskRestore in Windows (not PE) does it allow you to enter the password without crashing?

I did manage once to click YES before it disappeared.
It was a bit large and I decided I would zip it and send it this morning,
but it looks like CCleaner has mopped it up, I will do another one and send it.
I will also try the Windows P.E. environment which should be as "good as it gets" !!
N.B.
Yesterday I Removed the Beta v5 license I had been testing and using, but unticked the check-box to remove Macrium, thinking it might revert to v4.2.
Right click on the old image file still gave me options to browse or restore,
but not surprised that nothing then happened.
I rebooted and still had the Win P.E. boot option and that allowed me to restore both the Reserved and C:\,
but retained H:\ and D:\ which had not been affected by v5 Beta, but had been enhanced with more recent data,
which is also imaged and can be restored - I love having more fall-back options than I will ever need ! !
Then I tried a Differential image on the old series I had just restored, but a "missing partition error" struck.
That is when I decided that when v5 Beta was removed it might have disturbed the effectiveness of the residual v4.2 Win P.E. and decided on a do-over using the Boot CD to ensure freedom from errors.
I will log-off now and send you a fresh DMP from the 64 bit Boot CD,
and then report on what the Windows P.E. does now it has been restored via Boot CD.

DMP now sent
Windows Boot PE option now requires Windows Installation Disc.
I am taking time out to think about this.
