Why shut i formate a dvd disk? all what i want to doo is back up my files on dvd disks but i can not becouse my software tell mee to formate my dvd disk (Not RWs) , please help

Hi

Thanks for your post.

To backup to DVD media the discs need to be formatted first using the Windows Vista/7 'Live File System'. This happens automatically during the backup process.

Ok my system are 64 bit Windows Home Premium, the mashine ise a Asus N61JV,the DVD burner ise a intern

Hi

Thanks for getting back. Can you right click on the DVD in Windows Explorer and select 'Format'. Does this complete successfully?

Thanks it does the trick, but why,i backup tons of files in other software, and never have i to formate a dvd, in the old days when i used floppydisk its was normal to do this but in the year 2011? lol

Hi

Formatting is only required once. The advantage of formatting the media is that it can be re-written and files can be added and erased like a regular disk. This can't be done if the media is 'mastered'.
