I get the same message as others but I am not running on a server; just a local machine. The problems seemed to have started once I put a limit on the disk images to keep. How do I resolve this or even troubleshoot the system? Is this fixed in V5?

The error I get is

Backup aborted! - Failed To Create Volume Snapshot. Result Code: 0x8004231f

I have the same issue and none of the info so far has resolved it. Raised VSS to 20GB, deleted all VSS copies, check byte sector size (512) on all drives but no luck. Any other suggestions? Strange that the file backup operation of my Outlook data file works fine. Disk image backup fails with:

Initializing
Creating Volume Snapshot - Please Wait
ERROR: COM call "m_pVssObject->BackupComplete(&pAsync)" failed.
- Returned HRESULT = 0x80042301
- Error text: VSS_E_BAD_STATE
