Hi all,
I am using version 5 64 bit win7 version to make incremental back ups of my SSD hard drive. The first time I made a full back up, all went as planned and with the double check of the finished back up it took about 6.5 hours to complete.
The next back up I did was the incremental on the same 512 GB SSD and it also took about 6 hours. Is this normal? I would have thought only backing up new or changed files would have substantially reduce the amount of time it takes to complete the back up.
Since I am backing up to a removable drive, how many incremental back ups do I need to save? Can I delete the old one prior to creating a new one or does the new require changes from the last back up to complete thus requiring a full back up and and the last good incremental back up.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
Thanks for posting.
The length of the time to backup an incremental depends on the changes and fragmentation of the drive in question. Can you tell me if the incremental backup was around the same size as the full? I just want to check.
As for incrementals saved, it depends on how many you want to see, you cannot delete incrementals as its like a chain, if you delete one then the others will not work, they all depend on each other. I would recommend reading the following articles on understand incremental backups:
