I am backing up to an external USB hard drive. It was working for a while, but my last backup failed. I checked my settings and saw that I was identifying the external drive by it's drive letter. I changed this to the netowrk drive and it completed. Is itrecommended, when designating such a drive, to use it's network ID rather than the computer drive id?
Windows Drive letter assignments for network shares are only restored on an interactive logon. When a task is run in non-interactive batch mode (scheduled), or run for a different user then the drive letter may not be assigned. For this reason, network shares should always be accessed using the full UNC path of the share.
