I don't do file/folder backups for my C drive, just an image file. All my personal F/F content is on another drive.
But I suspect something got messed up with my Microsoft.NET stuff. So I mounted my C Drive image to get an older .NET. I tried to copy/paste it, but I can't paste -- wrong ownership or permissions or both or "another program is using this". Does this mean I have to restore the entire Disk to get this folder restored? I hope not, because that scares me. I'm way out of my element doing that kind of major admin. I've read some of the Disk Restore Rescue stuff and it is a bit unclear to me.

Select the option 'Enable access to restricted folders' in the mount dialog.

If the files you are copying to are in use then you will need to boot into the Windows PE rescue CD to copy and paste them.
Note: You shouldn't copy and paste system files unless you know what you are doing.

I don't show that option.
But I could access the folders in question just fine. Does that option affect the actual COPY/PASTE operation? |

You may be running an old version of the software if you don't see the 'Enable access to restricted folders' option. Anyway, this won't help you if the files you are trying to replace are in use by the OS. In this case you should launch the Windows PE rescue CD and use copy and paste from there. However, unless you know what you are doing, replacing Windows system files can cause problems. You are better off restoring a disk image to put your system back to the date of the image.
Restoring images is much easier with v5 of Macrium Reflect. Please see here for your upgrade options:

(2) would V5 MR do an "easier" disk image restore for a V4-generated image file?
I'm not even 100% sure that the .NET folders are responsible for the original issue, so I probably should not take any risk to restore them.
As a matter of fact, the MS issue I am having is regarding the Event Viewer and Task Scheduler (UI) being broken. So upgrading anything may not be wise at this point while I am not able to troubleshoot very well. As I (vaguely) recall when I first setup MR, I used the visual Task Scheduler UI to tweak some MR scheduling.

A disk image restore requires you to boot into the rescue CD and restore the entire file system.

Yes, v4 images can be restored by v5.
