Dear Folks at Macrium Reflect,

I purchased Macrium Reflect a couple of months ago and it works perfectly for backing up my data files and burning image backups of my hard drives to my external an external drive. However, when I try restoring a backed up disk image using my Macrium Rescue disk it does not recognize my external USB hard drive.

I have three computers, all running Windows 7 and I'm using a Western Digital (WD) external 3Tb USB 3 hard drive to backup my data files and also to take an Image backup of all three of my computers. One of my three computers has become inoperable after the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 got installed. The computer boots ok but Windows fails to start. I tried doing a restore but the restore file is corrupted and there's only one for some reason.

I created two kinds of rescue discs with the Macrium Reflect program; one with the Linux option and the second with the Windows PE 2 option. Each time I boot the failed computer into either of these two rescue discs my WD external USB hard drive does not appear in the list of devices to restore the backup image from.

Today I purchased a second USB external hard drive (a Seagate 3Tb USB 3 unit) but this drive also does not show up when booting into either of the above rescue discs. I tried this on all three of my computers with the same results.

I read some information in one of your online forums regarding somehow copying device drivers to the rescue disc but I feel I really should not have to go through such a complicated and risky procedure.

Do you have a solution to this problem? I look forward to your reply.

Macrium is working on compatibility issues with USB 3 external drives.

I have made a bootable rescue disc with Win PE Bart Builder and my Windows XP installation CD which works fine when booting up from it. However I cannot see the external Seagate USB external drive to which the Macrium back up image files of my PC has been loaded when attempting to do a test restore. I am sure that I am using USB 2 . Any ideas of the way to see the external drive. Is this an issue with the software? Thanks.

If you want to continue the free route (since the licensed WinPE version is guaranteed to work), try building a linux disk.
If that doesn't work, rebuild the linux disk with the compatibility boxed checked and try again.
