Hello :
I have two local drives in stripe config. and an external drive with the image of it ( full ). I have used the rescue CD , prepared with the raid drivers sucessfully while restoring the image of my stripe config. However now, rescue CD does not see the stripe config , so when asking me which partition I want to write with the image, it doesn't allow me to check the local drive. It only sees the external one. what is happening ?
Please advise,
Juan Sastre

Hi Juan
Thanks for your post.
quote: I have used the rescue CD , prepared with the raid drivers sucessfully while restoring the image of my stripe config.
Can you confirm that you have restored to the same RAID with this rescue CD before?
You can also use the 'drvload' command from the Windows PE command prompt once Windows PE has started.
X:\windows\system32>drvload "x:\your_driver.inf" (replace the path with the correct one.)
followed by..
X:\windows\system32>diskpart
Microsoft DiskPart version 6.0.6000 Copyright (C) 1999-2007 Microsoft Corporation. On computer: MININT-4HAAVPV
DISKPART> rescan
CAn you let us know if this is successful?
Kind Regards

Hello :
When using the rescue CD, I see on the loading bar of splash screen that the drivers for raid are being loaded , however I tried what you requested, but no good. On the root directory at, the beginning of the wizard, it does not appear the two hard disk on raid config as one drive.
PLease, advise,

Folks :
I really need your help here. I am not a computer expert, and this restoration is getting very difficult. I need to restore the image before the virus I have ends with everything, so I need your HELP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I really do not have any clue as to what is happening but I was able to use the rescue CD withthe corresponding raid drivers correctly. Now the wizard , for some unknown reason doesnt allow me to restore the image. This is a very delicate situation becuase I have everything inside that stripped two hard disk config. Is there any way you can shadow my computer so you can see what is happening? I am willing to pay if necessary. I have been and am a loyal Macrium customer, so please, help me
PLease advisr ASAP

Hi Juan
It would be really helpful if you could answer the question from my previous post.
quote: I have used the rescue CD , prepared with the raid drivers sucessfully while restoring the image of my stripe config.
Can you confirm that you have restored to the same RAID with this rescue CD before?
Your text implies that you have. If this is the case then the rescue CD is fine but your RAID is configured differently.
Can you see the RAID volume (not disks) in Windows PE Explorer?
When you ran the 'DRVLOAD' command and 'DISKPART' what was the result on the command line. Was an error reported or did the commands return successfully?
You may be loading the wrong RAID drivers for your system. Make sure you are using Vista/Server 2008 drivers and they match the architecture of Windows PE 32 or 64 bit. Can you also let us know what the RAID card is you are using?
[EDIT]
"On the root directory at, the beginning of the wizard, it does not appear the two hard disk on raid config as one drive"
Can you explain what this means? The beginning of the Wizard is where you select the image to restore not the target of the restore. If your RAID volume is not partitioned then you will only see your restore drive here. Select the image and click next.
Kind Regards

Hi Nick :
Thanks for your response :
my answers :
1- Can you confirm that you have restored to the same RAID with this rescue CD before?
I did it once, but haven't changed anything in the config, other that the disk drive connecotrs becuase they went loose while closing the CPU housing door.
2- Can you see the raid volume ?
Yes I can see it.
3- Did the drvload and diskpart returned succesfully
I did it with every raid(whatever) . inf file I found in the inf directory, most returned sucess , a few returned an error ( unable to load)
4- It does not appear the stripe raid config
The first wizard screen shows all the drives that PE can see. It sees my two CD/DVDs, the External hard drive where I have the image and a boot X , I suppose , is the PE. It can see the Raid volume as the sum up of the wor hard drive capacities, but it cannot recognize the raid disk letter itself ( local disk), from this screen I select the image located in the external drive. Then I am asked to select the place where this image is going to be, and it allows me to select only one disk , this is, precisely disk C: which is the local disk ( no it can see the letter), Finally it goes to another screen asking me to select the contents I am supposed to overwrite with the restored image selected already form the external drive ; here is where I can only see the external drieve and a small partition of 4 gigabytes that is supposed to be in the local C drive. If I select the External , it tells me that you cannot overwrite the own disk where the image to be restored is. If I select the smaller partition it tells me it is too small. Here I should be able to see the local disk C , but it does not appear. THIS IS THE PROBLEM, I cannot continue
Hope it helps,
Regards

Hi
Thanks for getting back. We're unsure whether your RAID volume is an existing or a new volume. If it's a new volume then it won't be partitioned.
quote: . It can see the Raid volume as the sum up of the wor hard drive capacities, but it cannot recognize the raid disk letter itself ( local disk), from this screen I select the image located in the external drive.
Where can you see the RAID volume? Is this in PE Explorer?
Does the RAID volume contain a file system or have you connected new disks to your PC?
If you have connected new disks then it won't have a drive letter yet because it doesn't have a file system.
From a command prompt in Windows PE type:
X:\>DISKPART <PRESS ENTER>
Microsoft DiskPart version 6.0.6002 Copyright (C) 1999-2007 Microsoft Corporation. On computer: OFFICE2
DISKPART> list disk <PRESS ENTER>
Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt -------- ---------- ------- ------- --- --- Disk 0 Online xxxxxx xxx DISKPART>Exit <PRESS ENTER>
If you can't see your RAID volume here then it may not have been properly setup in the BIOS. As you have used the same rescue CD to access RAID volumes before it sounds like a BIOS configuration problem.
Kind Regards

nick :
When using diskpart as requested it appears exactly as you have written : disk 0. I can't see it, but I did not make any changes in the configuration nor added any other disk.
the only difference could be I have done several updates from Windows since the last image.
What should I be looking at now?. When doing the initial setting, the system show that stripe partition is healthy. What could be wrong that is not recognized?.
Restoring the system to a previous time could help ?.
Please, advise.

Hi,
Just so I understand what your situation is ...
When you get to the Partitions to overwrite page in the restore wizard, it will look something like this ... http://www.macrium.com/webhelp/Partitions_to_overwrite.asp?nohead=y
Do you see your raid volume listed (note it will only appear as a single disk) with the size of twice that of the two physical disks?
If so, you should be able to continue with your restore - note you may have to select unallocated space as well as any existing partitions to overwrite. You will not be able to continue until you have selected partitions and/or free (unallocated) space that would be large enough to accommodate the partition you wish to restore.

Nick :
That is similar to what I see when starting the restore wizard from the local C disk where Macrium software is. But, because the C: disk is the target to be overwritted by the image, I have to use the rescue CD. Here is when I have a new restore wizard coming and asking me everything all over again and when you reach to the same screen as shown but using the recue CD, my stripped local C: drive does not appear. Consequently I cannot continue because the only options are the same drive ( external) who has the image and a small 4 Gb partition that, is part of the C drive, that holds some system files .
Another detail, When choosing exit from the rescue CD menu, it will not boot but the blue screen of death will appear and I see the raid driver somewhat involved on the error
PLease, advise.

Hi Juan
Thanks for getting back. I'm afraid we are a little confused over your setup.
quote: but using the recue CD, my stripped local C: drive does not appear. Consequently I cannot continue because the only options are the same drive ( external) who has the image and a small 4 Gb partition that, is part of the C drive, that holds some system files .
"my stripped local C: drive does not appear" AND "and a small 4 Gb partition that, is part of the C drive"
These two statements contradict each other as the first states you can't see your see drive but the second states that you can.
Can you also confirm whether the RAID volume you are restoring to:
1. Contains an operating system or is empty. 2. Whether you have ever seen this RAID volume in any OS
Thanks |

Nick :
On final screen of image restore wizard I should have the possibility of selecting the C:\ drive which is the main , and the one which have the partition I want to restore. However the last screen only shows the external drive which is the one that has the mirror image to be used on C; drive only.
Note : I tried to use redeply to inject the nvraid drivers once again, but I will get the error message , version has timed out. I do not know why , becuase I have renewed my Macrium service almost two months ago. Do I need to get a separate renewal for redeploy as well?.
PLease advise.

Hi Juan
Thanks for getting back.
It doesn't seem that you have the correct RAID drivers loaded for Windows PE to detect the RAID volume.
so we can help you further with this, please send us your System Information file. Boot into your system and run 'System Information'. Click 'Start' > 'All Programs' > 'Accessories' > 'System Tools' > 'System Information' and take the 'File' > 'Save' menu option. Save the '.nfo' file, compress (ZIP) it and send it as an email attachment to support (@) macrium.com.

ReDeploy is not the issue here as this product injects drivers into the off-line file system not Windows PE. To remove the message you have seen, please update Windows PE by clicking the 'Update' button in the CD burn Wizard.

Hi :
Unfortunately , I have lost access to the hard drive. I wanted to use the image because I knew I have a virus. Now I cannot access the hard disk, not even as safe mode.
I still have the mirror image. How can I proceed to reestablish my mirror image on the raid config?. How it is all so difficult ?
Please, advise,
Juan Sastre

Hi,
Thanks for contacting us.
We advise that you find Vista based drivers for your RAID card, boot from the rescue CD and then try the drvload command to load the drivers. Some drivers require .DLL and .CAT files in order to load successfully, these will be part of the driver package for your RAID card. Please ensure all driver files are present before you try and run drvload on the .INF file.
You may need to perform a diskpart>rescan to get WinPE to recognise the disks after the driver has been loaded.
Kind regards.
Chris.
