I've made a boot disk that boots the pc, but does not hook me up to the network. I'm pretty new at this so I have a couple of questions.
I have successfully made a full backup to a network RAID system.
One thing I think will make this a little easier is that I actually have Vista 32 bit as the operating system.
1. Do I have to be wired to the network, or does wi-fi work? If wi-fi will work, it is not working from the rescue cd i've already made.
2. How do I figure out which additional drivers I need? Is there a place I can look on my laptop to see what's loaded now? Can I get the drivers from somewhere on the laptop or should I get them from somewhere else, like an installation disk? I have a RAID backup system (2 redundant physical drives). I see some people are having problems with 'software RAID', I assume I won't have that problem.
Thanks for the help. Reflect seems like it is just what I need--and it's fast! I used the backup on Vista for my laptop and it took several days. Reflect took about 9 hours. Don't know if there is a way to speed this up--I assume much of the duration is due to operating over wi-fi.
Thanks for your help. Dale |

Hi
1. You can save both Image and File and Folder backups over a wi-fi network (as well as wired networks) to another drive. With Reflect running you can restore a file and folder backup over wi-fi and wired networks. But if you restore using Windows PE, such as using rescue CD, then you can only restore over a wired network or from attached drives such as USB external hard drive.
You can copy the backup files .mrimg and .mrbak from over a wi-fi network to a USB external hard drive to restore if you wish.
2. One way to help with this problem of drivers is to use Driver Copy before you burn your Windows PE rescue CD: http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50065.aspx
Please note that the drivers for Windows PE should be Vista based drivers and match the architecture of your WinPE component (x86 or x64).
When copying the drivers please include all .SYS, .INF, .CAT and .DLL files. Using tutorial: http://www.macrium.com/webhelp/Adding_Drivers.asp
Although Windows PE has a Vista kernel it will restore Images containing Windows 7, Vista, XP and Server 2003 and 2008 both 32 and 64 bit
Hope this helps
Regards

Thank you for the help!
I was successful with Driver Copy.
It took me a little while to figure out how to connect to everything after creating a new rescue CD, but I am able to connect to the network and see the backups now. |
