Hi guys,

Just installed Reflect version 2.1.1750, which I got off PC Pro's cover disk for December 2007. It's a great programme and just what I have been looking for for a long while to replace Norton Ghost and Acronis, neither of which I get on with.

However, when I create a boot CD, it simply won't boot on my main machine. I get the following error, which comes up just after the "Loading linux...." has gone:

CPU 0: Machine Check Exception: 0000000000000004
Bank 4: b200000000070f0f
Kernel panic - not syncing: CPU Context corrupt

I see you have produced a later version of the boot CD with newer versions of Reflect but that's not a great help to me in trying the version on the cover disk (which is described a Vista compatible).

What do you suggest I do? The CD is not corrupt as it boots up perfectly on my laptop - but that's not where I want it.

Thanks

Hi Ken

Reflect Is 100% compatible with Vista, unfortunately your PC is not compatible with Linux. The boot CD is not concerned with the operating system on the PC itself, in fact it will boot on a compatible PC with no operating system on at all.

The later rescue CD you are referring to is based on Windows Vista, but as we have to pay Microsoft for every download, we of course can't give it away.

It is possible that your CPU is 64 bit and not running in 'Legacy' mode or that you have attached USB device(s) that are causing conflict. I would suggest that you have a look in your BIOS setup and see if there are any temporary changes you can make to help the Linux boot process and detach any non-essential USB devices.

Hope this helps

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your response. I do have a 64 bit dual core machine but it generally doesn't have problems running Linux as I've tried other versions before without issues. I have also been through the BIOS to see if anything can be altered to make it more compatible but I don't seem to have any such 'Legacy' type settings. I think my problem could possibly be a hardware design fault as a quick search on Google reveals others with a similar problem running various other types of Linux but all running the same processor / motherboard combo.

Never mind. I've seen enough of Reflect to want to buy a copy of version 4 (after all, it's discounted to PC Pro readers). I'll then get the Windows based recovery which should not give me any more problems - hopefully.

Hi Ken,

Glad you like the software, and thanks for your order.
