Thanks John. Could you confirm my licensing assumption please (my previous post)? Depending on the answer, and once rough V5 timescales are available, I can decide whether to get additional licenses now or wait until 5 comes out.
Cheers. |

We understand your concern regarding upgrade costs. We do have a policy of free upgrades within a specified period. We will cover this in the afore mentioned news post.
Kind Regards John - Macrium Support |

Hi,
We very much appreciate the concern amongst our loyal users regarding lack of news of late. I can promise you, however, that we have been hard at work.
We are currently putting together a news post regarding timescales and some new features to look forward to for v5. We might even include some sneak preview screen shots.
This must be one heck of a news post, taking as long as it is to publish .

Indeed; a similar thought had crossed my mind. |

Hi,
Yes we are aware that this is taking longer than we would like.
Our aim has been make the restore process both more powerful and intuitive. Balancing both these requirements makes perfecting the new user interface a time consuming process.
In particular we don't want to fall into the common trap of making a new user interface that is less easy to use than the previous version.
We appreciate your understanding and patience in this and we thank you for your support by buying our software.
Kind Regards John - Macrium Support |

It's interesting that this topic began in May 2009, with a comment that there was talk of a Beta six months before that, or almost two years ago! Since then ... vague replies and mumbled promises that in most software forums would be suggestive of vapourware. If it were not for the occasional incremental updates we see in v4, I think most would doubt that v5 development exists except in the imagination.
Like many here, I'd love to see a new version that implements several of the Wish List suggestions here. As impatient as I can be, however, I doubt any of us are in a hurry to see Macrium damage their reputation or their users with bloated, barely functional, and generally ill-considered product releases like some of their formerly formidable competitors.
Keep up the good work ... and hope to hear more on v5 soon!

I think that they have more than enough time to get it right .

Totally agree, be nice to see version 5 by the end of the year, or at least a public beta.

Steady on ... they're struggling to put a news bulletin together about V5 ... I don't think you've much chance of seeing software anytime soon!!
Although being proved wrong would be sweet.
Earlier (7 weeks ago) in this thread ...

Don't forget what Nick said in July of 2009 ...

One of the problems for Macrium is that it becomes increasingly difficult for even the most loyal of users to recommend the product to others when it so readily apparent that development has stalled. |

That is so true.
It is still a great peace of software, especially for the price but it is starting to get dated. And some of the issues in the current version like prolonged restores and not being able to simply restore a whole drive (only being able to restore a partition at a time) make it very difficult to recommend.

And yet user loyalty does remain - perhaps because Macrium is prepared to divert some technical resources away from the development of V5 so they may provide Forum plus email support to assist existing users with what is currently available.
I found a different experience with the Acronis Forum. If a user had a problem he could only hope another user would step up and help, failing which all he could do was repeatedly bump his post and wait until a developer took pity.
Do we want jam and bread today, or cake and cream tomorrow ?
I want it all, and I want it now, but I will be grateful for whatever and whenever.

I agree that it's always a delicate balance, and surely no one wants Macrium to rush out with a bad product, but at times their silence on this topic is quite deafening. |
